Perfect Little Mess (production update)
Tall & Short Productions, aka producer Gabrielle Joannou and director Reece Beale, and the short film "Perfect Little Mess", that I keep messing up for "Pretty Little Mess" (oh well, worse things happen).
Being a production designer in the group is working quite well, I cannot complain much, however I do have some things to say (like I always do, it wouldn't be me otherwise). The confusion created by a certain tutor, gave us all a little bit of a spin, but in the end everything turned out to work just fine. The director changed his script like 40 times already which is nothing surprising or upsetting, but I'm starting to get lost in which sphere we are actually moving around (if you know what I mean). For the last 2 production meetings I had troubles orientating myself, but hopefully everything is going to be much clearer now, since the test shoot was yesterday. Things might just get a little more organized.
Honestly speaking, I don't think I have worked with a better producer so far!!! Gabs is working her butt off for this film and is quite firm with how things go, but on the other hand she is still very considerate and human. And personally, there is another I thing I am extremely fond of when it comes to her, she doesn't give a freaking motivational speech every single time we meet! Like one other producer I'm working with (but I elaborated more about this situation in another production update post). Gabs has given me a strict deadline for all the documents and sketches (and basically everything I have about Perfect Little Mess), which is few days before the shoot and generally, she is a person I want to work with again. For real though.
Now onto the real update: I am working with 1 house and 2 rooms in the house. Both should look like they're in a different house - that is not big of an issue, since let's say the audience doesn't know any of the houses. It's 2 completely different rooms in the house, so I don't think that is much of an issue. It's a house of a student so there are going to be some things on the walls for the party scene that takes place in the living room.
For the main character's room - he's a photography student and he is quite depressed about his love passing away. Lucky me has a friend, who studies photography at MDX and her style is quite unique. Ever heard of 'horror photography'? Before I met her I haven't either. Her pictures I are quite lonely and depressing and perfect for the main character right now as they can set a really good mood and help the viewer understand the character better. This coming week, I am going to get her to sign the copyright waiver form and it's good to go. I will get A3 prints of her photos ans well as some A4 prints and put them on the walls. Gray is a good color, in everything. I cannot do as much as I would want to for obvious reasons of not having permission to modify the house and not having that many resources. So I'm mostly going to just tone everything I can into gray-ish feel to underline the feelings and struggles of the main character.
As for the costumes, the art director and I joined sides and it worked really well. So I hope it's going to work out the way we want.
About my paper work - that will be uploaded in a separate blog post after my deadline for the producer so it's all nice and neat in the same post.
